Goodnight, Sweetheart. Blogtober 26th.

An over tired baby.

He twists and stretches in my arms.

 I sing to him, softly.

I hold him close.

I kiss his forehead.

He smiles.

I’m wide awake, Mummy.

I keep singing.

I rock from side to side.

I gently place him down in his cot.

I wait for the protest.

Three.

Two.

One.

A sleeping angel.

Good night, sweetheart.

Mummy will miss you while you sleep.

The Greatest Gift. Blogtober 3rd.

I have a little tale to tell, a tale of hope and joy,
It’s all about the day that I met you, my little boy.
I woke at 4am that day, let out a great big yawn,
But still I had no clue at all that you would soon be born!

You kicked and said, ‘Good morning Mum, I’m still in here, you know!’
I rubbed my belly tenderly, my heart began to glow.
Because I knew that soon I’d meet my precious little one,
I thought of what awaited me, a world so full of fun.

At 9 am my belly simply wasn’t feeling right,
It felt a little tender and perhaps a little tight.
So up I got to start the day, and then before I knew,
You’d pressed your exit button while I sat upon the loo!

At 3pm the Doctor said, ‘It’s not too far away.
I think you’re going to have this little babe of yours today!’
And then my body took the reins, you really wanted out,
My belly twisted out of shape and I began to shout!

Before I knew it I was grunting like an angry cow,
I told the nurse that she should get you out of there somehow!
But no, she said I had to wait, you’d come in your own time,
Oh goodness, no, I can’t do this without a vodka, lime!

But then the time did come at last, just like she said it would,
I scrunched my face and huffed and puffed, I gave all that I could.
Then in a moment you were here, so precious and so small,
And that’s the day that you became my greatest gift of all.

Green Eggs and Baby

Do you want to sleep til late?
Oh no, you don’t? You will not wait?
A sloppy kiss for Mummy’s chin,
Please stop! Your teeth are digging in.

Now, would you like to read a book?
A funny book? Let’s have a look.
The book is not to eat my sweet,
Let’s read the book. Let’s read, not eat.

I guess this means you want some food?
You’ve spat it out, how very rude.
A pumpkin coloured carpet stain,
A Mummy who will take the blame.

We’re running late, get in the car,
Come on, we won’t be going far.
You will not sit in your car seat?
Oh, jeepers creepers, Mummy’s beat.

But when the sun goes down to rest,
That’s when you’re at your very best.
Your Daddy sings to you in bed,
While Mummy pats your little head.

Our precious baby, quiet and calm,
So safe in bed, away from harm,
You’re sound asleep now, precious one,
And dreaming of your day of fun.

Waiting for my little Angel: lovingly written by a Mummy to be

Hello my little angel, I’m your Mummy, yes it’s true,
I know you cannot see me yet, but I know I see you.
You rest and wait inside me now, beside my beating heart,
You wait so very patiently for this, your brand new start.

And when you come out from your place of warmth to be with me,
I promise I will hold you close, wherever we may be.
Most every day you grow and grow, and with you I grow too,
And soon I’ll giggle as I struggle just to lace my shoe.

My precious one, you are the sun that shines on through the rain,
I know with you will come some loss, yet so much more I’ll gain.
So as you wait to see us all, please grow for me my sweet,
And I will gently carry you until the day we meet.
